I was born and raised in the San Joaquin Valley of California, where the skies are murky brown all summer and the air is pungent with manure. I began compiling my first books when I was 4 years old, and by the time I was 10 I determined that I should be an author. Discipline doesn't always match desire, so as a teenager I didn't make much progress towards that goal. At the age of 20, I married my sailor-husband, Jason, and began life as a Navy wife. We spent several years in South Carolina and Washington; in 2007, Jason separated from the Navy, settling us down in the subdivision-riddled deserts of Arizona.

Discipline came in the form of a masochistic annual ritual known as Nanowrimo. I began participating in 2002 and have continued every year since. Mouse took three years to complete. I began The Locked Door in November 2007 and finished the novel in early 2008.

My full-time employment is that of a stay-at-home mom to a feisty and sweet autistic toddler. He keeps me busy, and in my spare moments I escape to write, edit, and research. That, or I go insane from reading Goodnight Moon for the thirtieth time in one sitting.
