A House Between Sea and Sky

My next book, A House Between Sea and Sky, is officially out October 1st… but it’s an Amazon First Reads pick for September. That means that Amazon customers can get it early: Prime members can acquire it for free, and other people can get the ebook for $1.99. [promo link]

Then on October 1st, you can buy it everywhere (including your local indie!) in print, and get the audiobook narrated by Hollis McCarthy and Pete Cross (I’m so excited to listen to them!).

Thank you so much for your support!

  1. Great book for a couple of days of a long commute. Thanks for creating good company for the ride.

    • You’re very welcome! I’m honored that it helped you through a long commute.

  2. It’s a lovely read and I ate it all up as quickly as I’d eat bread made from Mother. Congratulations!

    • Aw, thank you! I’m so glad you enjoyed the read!

  3. Thank you! I’m a First
Reads Subscriber and, luckily, chose your book this month! I *loved* it. Easy 5 stars!

And I’m absolutely going to try, again, to create my own sourdough starter, which, of course, I will name, “Mother.” I tried to start with sourdough back in 2020 and failed. So, I’ve made all the yeasted doughs possible: no knead dough, fast bread, Hoagie Rolls, Bagels, pretzels, soft dinner rolls, crusty dinner rolls, and my latests—-Shokupan and square Shokupan! I hope I’ve learned enough about bread that I can be successful now.

And, because I’m the kind of reader that I am, it’s 7min to 3 in the morning and I’m in Libby, trying to borrow your entire back catalogue…

I should download something that will lull me to sleep, instead, but… I’m delighted by your book and can’t wait to jump in with, “The Clockwork Dagger!

    Thank you, dear author!

    • I’m delighted that you loved A House Between Sea and Sky, and that you’re going to read more of my books! I have the biggest grin on my face right now.

Good luck with trying a sourdough starter again! The thing I found weird is that the whole process is so much slower than it is when using processed yeast. That said, there is something particularly rewarding about having a loaf turn out great after several days of bread-making effort. I found theperfectloaf.com to be a good resource, especially on the kneading technique for slow-rising sourdough. I hope your Mother thrives!

  4. I love the book comma you’re Writing comma and all of these characters and I really really want more. Would you like to do a short story about them? Please tell me you’re gonna give us more. I cannot thank you enough for writing this novel. Blessings.

    • Thank you! I’m honored that you loved my book! I haven’t considered doing additional stories with these characters, but who knows?

  5. I adored this book!
I attended DLI in Monterey (to study Russian 😉) back in the 90s and fell in love with Carmel.
One of my fondest memories is when my mother came to visit me there.
This book spoke to my heart in so many ways.

    • Oh, thank you! This is a book close to my own heart, so it means a lot that you connected with it so profoundly.
