B&N Gives Breath of Earth Some Love, And Other News

Breath of Earth is out in about two and a half months, and it’s time for the buzz to really kick in. Publishers Weekly recently said nice things, and now Barnes & Noble’s SFF Blog is chiming in:

Her latest novel, Breath of Earth, out later this summer, takes place in an alternate San Francisco in which geomancers keep the San Andreas faultline in check—and institutional sexism and racism keep Ingrid Carmichael from achieving her full magical potential. Cato weaves a compelling tapestry of clashing cultural values, bringing much-needed diversity to the genre.

Breath of EarthRead the whole list of books they loved in May–lots of great titles on there!

My Clockwork Dagger story Final Flight also garnered some love over at Reading Reality. Yay!

The big Elevengeddon signing event at Poisoned Pen was a smashing success last week. They did a wonderful write-up with loads of pictures.

I have a new poem out: “A Sip of Starlight” at NewMyths.com.

One of the big local papers, the Phoenix New Times, included me on their 2016 list of 100 Creatives in Phoenix.

I was also interviewed over at SFF World about the Decision Points anthology along with Mike Resnick and Kate Corcino.

Mega Booksigning in Scottsdale Tomorrow

Posted by on May 31, 2016 in Blog, public speaking | Comments Off on Mega Booksigning in Scottsdale Tomorrow

Last year on the eve of Phoenix Comicon, Elevengeddon assembled a huge force of sci-fi and fantasy authors for a booksigning at Poisoned Pen in Scottsdale. This year, it is back, and bigger and better than before! Seriously, this time around it involves wristbands and delayed entry times, all because of some dudes named Pat Rothfuss and Brandon Sanderson.

The-Poisoned-Pen-presents-14For more info, go to the Poisoned Pen’s event page over here. Here’s some extra stuff to keep in mind, too:

We are limiting the number of books that can be signed by Brandon Sanderson and Patrick Rothfuss to three each per person and we wanted to let everyone know in advance if possible. We will be issuing colored wristbands that will correspond to 45 minute units of time. We will begin issuing these at 6:00 PM and the first group will run from 7:00-7:45 and so on. We will be asking people to line up by the front door at the beginning of their group’s time. They will have to line up outside if numbers are big, so we want them to be prepared. Wristbands will either be issued by the front counter or, if numbers are big, by staff members in front of the store. Wristbands are free, however we are requesting everyone to buy something, though it is not required.

As a personal aside: with signings like this, it is courteous to always buy at least one new book, even if you are bringing a stack to have signed. It’s the best way to say “thank you!” to the bookseller who is hosting the event.

I will be happy to sign copies of Clockwork Dagger, Clockwork Crown, napkins, ARCs of Breath of Earth, any anthologies that feature my work, underwear, shaved cats, etc. Plus, you can get snazzy stickers featuring my book covers!

Free Public SFF Booksigning in Chicago May 13th

Posted by on May 2, 2016 in awards, Blog, public speaking | Comments Off on Free Public SFF Booksigning in Chicago May 13th

The Nebula Conference is a week and a half away (yikes!). I’ll be there Friday through Sunday, taking part in events at the conference and at BEA/BookCon not far away. My previous “visit’ to Chicago consisted of a switch between connecting flights at Midway Airport back in 2003, so I’m pretty excited to explore a city that I have seen on TV my entire life. The land of Oprah! And Navy Bootcamp!

But let’s get to the to-do that is mentioned in the topic. On Friday May 13th, there is a huge booksigning that is free and totally open to the public. Take a look at the image below to get an idea of the authors who will be present. I mean, wow. You can bring books or buy from a bookseller there. This will be awesome!
